10hp Ruston Proctor Paraffin Mechanical

The 10hp Ruston Proctor paraffin mechanical locomotives were some of the earliest production internal combustion locomotive types produced in Britain. These locos were based off earlier German Deutz designs and were developed in the first years of WW1 as the German designs were no longer available. They found a wide variety of uses in industries where sparks from steam locomotives would be detrimental such as explosives plants, chemical mills, paper factories and more. Post war the locomotives were popular in industry as they were very economical to run, the large single cylinder engine would be started on petrol before being run for the entire day on paraffin fuel, quite often however they were replaced by more modern stronger locomotives as the years passed.

Several proctors are preserved however and this kit is based off the preserved collection X locomotive No.50823 as its a very good representation of the class despite the gauge disparity.

The kit is designed as a drop on friction fit bodyshell for the smallest Toma mechanism with 5mm dia wheels and 11mm wheelbase and comes with a static chassis as well as wheel inserts for the Toma chassis.
